Republican President Hakainde Hichilema says Zambia is not valued to a fair degree as a location of immense potential for trade and investment, considering the peace, security, and stability the country continues to enjoy.
President Hichilema stressed that Zambia has consistently maintained a peaceful and stable environment, which has been widely underrated by international credit or investment risk assessors.
“As I am promoting the country to bring more investment in trade to grow our economy, I say those who do credit risk assessment or profiling of our country usually leave out this quality of a peaceful and stable country, which has a bearing on the risk profiling of any project located in a particular geography such as Zambia,” President Hichilema said.
As a leader of a nation that is highly regarded for its peace, security, and stability, President Hichilema disclosed that the African Union (AU) deemed it appropriate to appoint him and two other presidents to oversee the process of ensuring that Africa is assessed accurately in order for the continent to receive fair investment and development.
“As your servant, the AU has chosen three of us, the Presidents of Ghana, Kenya, and this fella here, the President of Zambia, to push this agenda of the reform of the global financial architecture so that Africa can be assessed correctly and, therefore, the developmental capital that we attract can flow into Zambia, SADC, and the continent at a fair price,” he said.
The Head of State has further implored the church and citizens to partake in preserving the country’s peace and stability by promoting national values and principles, as well as ensuring that they are imparted to the next generation in society.
“The most important thing is to internalize them (national values and principles) at the individual level, in the family, in the church, and in both central and local government; invariably, it means in the community. We should live them, walk and talk them, but also live them in order to pass them on to our children,” he added.
President Hichilema was speaking yesterday when he engaged with various church mother bodies on national values and principles at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.
