Must read

The government, through the Ministry of Education and the Teaching Service Commission of Zambia (TSCZ), has announced the completion of the recruitment process for 4,200 new teachers under the 2024 national budget.

After a four-month-long process of selection, verification, and validation, the Ministry of Education and TSCZ assured the nation that the newly recruited teachers were selected transparently and based on their qualifications and credentials.

“I can declare with confidence that the automated teacher recruitment system we used to extract the 4,200 teachers from the database was transparent, merit-based, meticulous and in line with our decentralized recruitment system, which draws its legitimacy from the Service Commission Act No. 10 of 2016,” TSCZ Chairperson Daphne Chimuka said at a press conference held this afternoon.

Mrs. Chimuka further indicated that the continued recruitment of teachers is proof of the government’s agenda to improve the quality of education in the country.

“The 2024 recruitment of teachers demonstrates a commitment to providing quality education to all Zambians, as it takes us closer to attaining our goal of the desired teacher-pupil ratio of 1:35 and 1:40 at secondary and primary levels, respectively,” she said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Education Dr. Douglas Syakalima has praised Republican President Hakainde Hichilema for exhibiting his commitment to enhancing education in the country through programs such as the annual recruitment of teachers and the free education policy under his New Dawn government.

“I wish to express gratitude and sincere thanks to His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, for his unwavering commitment to ensuring that every Zambian child receives quality education. Through his government’s support for education, we have seen over 2 million children enroll in schools,” Dr. Syakalima said.

Out of the total of 4,200 recruited teachers, 2,600 are secondary school teachers, 1,136 are primary school teachers, and 424 are early childhood education teachers.

The government further announced that the full list of the newly recruited teachers will be accessible in print and electronic media tomorrow.
