Parliament Requests Update on ECL’s Health

Must read

Parliament has ordered the Minister of Health, Elijah Muchima, to provide the nation with an update on the health of former President Edgar Lungu following public concern about his current condition.

In a point of order raised before the house last evening, Chasefu MP Misheck Nyambose requested the Minister of Health to provide an update on the current health conditions of Lungu as well as the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) party leader, Edith Nawakwi.

“Madam Speaker, when I walk around, people ask me what is happening because they love their leaders. One such example is our FDD president, Madam Edith Nawakwi. Also, our surviving former president, Dr. Lungu, his health is a concern to the nation. Zambians are asking, and we have no answer to give the people,” Nyambose submitted.

In her ruling, Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Attractor Malungo Chisangano, directed Mr. Muchima to consult and return to furnish the public with factual information about the two leaders’ state of health.

“This matter to me is of national interest, especially issues to do with our former president and indeed the leader of FDD. The honorable Minister of Health should come to the house just to inform the country at large about what is happening to our former leader of FDD and the former president of the Republic of Zambia on Thursday this week,” she said.

Since the start of this month, Lungu has been out of the country in South Africa for a medical assessment, while FDD leader Edith Nawakwi has not been able to attend her ongoing court cases due to ill health.
