Former Nkana Football Club defender Obeddy Masumbuko has taken legal action against the 13-time Super League champions, demanding over K300,000 in unpaid benefits.
Masumbuko filed his case before the Lusaka High Court on 27 February 2025, accusing the club of breaching multiple contractual agreements spanning from 2018 to 2023.
According to court documents, Masumbuko joined Nkana in 2018 on a two-year contract after transferring from Lumwana Radiants. His contract, set at a salary of K9,000 per month, was allegedly violated when the club unilaterally slashed his salary by 20 percent for nine months in 2020, accumulating to a shortfall of K17,077.61.
Despite this, Masumbuko renewed his contract for three more years in 2020, securing a a salary increase to K10,000 per month.
However, the club reportedly failed to honour several key financial commitments, which include winning bonuses for four matches in 2020-2021, totaling K10,500, a transfer fee of K15,000 and a signing bonus of K150,000 out of which K132,500 remains unpaid.
He also stated that the club did not remit NAPSA contributions amounting to K37,946.16, which were deducted from his salary but never submitted.
He is claiming gratuity payments from both contracts, totaling K134,000.
Masumbuko’s lawyers sent multiple demand letters to Nkana FC in August, October, and November 2024, seeking settlement of the outstanding amounts.
They claim that the club acknowledged the debt.
