‘No Major or Minor Tribes in Zambia’ — HH

Must read

Republican President Hakainde Hichilema says there is no measure of superiority nor inferiority amongst the nation’s tribal groupings or regions as they are all equal before government and the Zambian law.

Earlier this today at State House, President Hichilema swore in new officials in different government positions as well as the reconstituted Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) board.

Speaking when he addressed the new appointees, President Hichilema reiterated his call for equity amongst all ethinic groups in the country as the Zambian Constitution does not rate any group or region to be superior or inferior over another.

“I want to repeat or remind you colleagues here that in this country that there is no major tribe and there is no minor tribe. I don’t know anything about that myself, you need to show me where it says so in the constitution because we are bound by the constitution,” President Hichilema said.

The Head of State regretted that there were some tribal groups promoting territorial remarks on the distribution of the resources which belong to all Zambians.

“Of late I have been hearing murmurings to say the gold in Mpika belongs to the people of Muchinga and Northern Province, people in Mwinilunga say the gold in Kasenseli belongs to us but these are national assets,” he said.

He also urged the newly appointed officials and all civil servants to serve the nation diligently and equitably.

“I think it is important for people in public service to realize that we owe it to all the people of Zambia by virtue of these roles we accept to serve and that we shall equitable opportunities for our people,” he said.

As part of the New Dawn government’s agenda, President Hichilema said he expects all public service workers to play their part in unifying rather than dividing the country.

“I’m emphasizing this issue because part of our agenda is to reunite this country, I’ve said it before. Your actions will show whether you are bringing the country together or you continue the trajectory of splitting the country,” he said.

President Hichilema also urged the new appointees and all public service workers to be committed in executing their respective roles of duty to contribute effectively to economic growth and national development.
