Chameleon allegedly used in Witchcraft against Zambian President Relocated to Wildlife Center

Must read

A wildlife ranger, Bright Nkhoma, testified in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court that a live chameleon allegedly used in witchcraft to harm President Hakainde Hichilema has been relocated to the Munda Wanga Rehabilitation Center in Chilanga.

The chameleon was confiscated from two men, Jasten Mabulesse Candude and Leonard Phiri, who face charges under Zambia’s Witchcraft Act for professing knowledge of witchcraft and possession of charms.

According to Nkhoma, the chameleon’s disposal was authorized by a signed court order, and it was released back into the wilderness at the rehabilitation center.

The suspects allegedly used various charms, including the live chameleon, to practice witchcraft and instill fear with the ultimate goal of harming the President.

During cross-examination, Nkhoma revealed that he was with the chameleon for 2-3 hours and did not experience any harm.

He also acknowledged that, in his 15 years of experience, he has encountered instances where chameleons are considered charms in African cultures.

The case has been adjourned to March 5 and 7.

The suspects remain in custody.

It is alleged that the two were hired to harm the President by former Petauke Member of Parliament Emmanuel Jay Banda, through his brother Nelson Banda, for a fee of K43,200,000.
