The National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) says it will not recognize the current FAZ president, Andrew Kamanga, and the executive committee after 28th February 2025, when their mandate officially ends.
The NSCZ has indicated that the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) constitution does not provide any room for the extension of tenures of office beyond the period of four years, ending on the date a president and executive committee were elected.
Speaking at a media briefing today, CEO Sombwa Musunsa disclosed that the council had sought clarifications and recommendations from Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha regarding the FAZ constitution’s stipulations and guidelines on the FAZ electoral process.
“Based on the Attorney General’s advice and in line with the FAZ Constitution, NSCZ will not recognize the current FAZ Executive Committee and President beyond 28th February 2025,” Musunsa announced.
The NSCZ further directed that the Kamanga-led FAZ executive committee will, as of 28th February, have no prerogative to run the affairs of Football House, as also recommended by the Attorney General.
“Accordingly, the Attorney General has guided that the mandate of the president and the executive committee will lapse on 28th February 2025. Therefore, the president and the executive committee will have no power to continue administering the affairs of the association beyond 28th February 2025, unless elections are held and a new Executive Committee is constituted in line with the Constitution,” he said.
On Monday, the FAZ electoral committee declared Kamanga as president of FAZ after he went unopposed, even before the elective AGM, as they deemed the nominations of eight other candidates to have been invalid.
