Kansanshi Dynamos have sacked their head coach, Donewell Yobe, following the club’s relegation from the MTN Super League at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Yobe’s sacking comes less than three months after he was awarded a two-year contract as the permanent head coach. He had previously handled the Mabanga Boys in an interim role when then coach, Boyd Mulwanda left in November, 2023.
“Kansanshi Dynamos Football Club wishes to announce that the club will not continue with the services of Head Coach Donewell Yobe for the coming season” the club’s official statement released Sunday morning reads.
The Solwezi-based side resolved to part ways with the 40-year old former Zambian international, owing to the team’s dismal performance in the just-ended Super League campaign. Kansanshi finished in 17th place and second from the bottom, leading to their drop to the National League.
“This decision follows the team’s performance in the just-ended season, which resulted in the team’s demotion from the MTN Super League. The club will announce Coach Yobe’s successor in due course before the team starts preparations for the next season.”
Kansanshi have also parted ways with Technical Director Patrick Phiri, Goalkeeper Trainer Caesar Ndhlovu and Team Manager Kanema Chizombu.
Phiri’s short-term contract with the club expired and has not been renewed.
